Come Celebrate with Us!

Bridge rendering by Ed Carpenter
Join us on Sunday, October 27 for a Sunday morning street party in the middle of W. Burnside to celebrate the Barbara Walker Crossing, the bridge connecting the Wildwood Trail over Burnside!

We’ll begin with a parade! Foot Traffic will host a 100m dash to the Crossing (Wildwood-themed costumes encouraged).
World-renowned local artists, the dance group Bodyvox and
theatrical designer Michael Curry, will present a “ribbon tying.”

We’ll have Bob’s Bars by Bob’s Red Mill, beverages, and all-you-can eat pancakes from Chris Cakes.
Leaders of the Siletz and Grand Ronde tribes, the City of Portland,
and Metro will honor the creation and completion of the Barbara Walker Crossing.

For more than 20 years, runners and hikers have imagined a bridge connecting the iconic Wildwood Trail over West Burnside. The at-grade crossing has been a tragedy waiting to happen.

On October 27, the Portland Parks Foundation will open a safe, new connection: the Barbara Walker Crossing. Designed as an expression of the Wildwood Trail and named for one of Portland’s greatest parks and trails advocates, the Crossing will beautifully link the 30-mile trail and its most popular destinations:  Forest Park, Pittock Mansion, Hoyt Arboretum, and Washington Park.
